لوي إيميل كليمون جورج برنانوس ( Louis Émile Clément Georges Bernanos ؛ بالفرنسية: [ʒɔʁʒ bɛʁnanɔs]؛^[1] وُلِد في باريس 20 فبراير 1888 - 5 يوليو 1948)، روائي فرنسي وكاتب سياسي، وجندي في الحرب العالمية الأولى. وكان كاثوليكياً بميول ملكية،^[2] وكان منتقداً للفكر النخبوي ومعارضاً لما عرّفه بالانهزامية. فقد آمن أن تلك الأفكار أدت إلى هزيمة فرنسا واحتلال ألمانيا لها في 1940 أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية.^[3] His two best-known novels تحت شمس الشيطان (1926) و مذكرات قس في الريف (1936) كلتاهما دارتا حول قس يكافح الشر واليأس في العالم.^[4] Most of his novels have been translated into English and frequently published in both Great Britain and the United States.

السيرة

كتب ثلاث روايات مشهورة: "تحت شمس الشيطان" (1926)، و"السرور"، و"مذكرات قس في الريف"، وكلها تعبر عن التصوف والحياة الروحية. ومن مؤلفاته السياسية: "المدافن العظيمة في ضوء القمر" (1938)، يستنكر فيها الحرب الأهلية الإسبانية، وكتاب "خطاب إلى الإنجليز" (1942)، يدافع فيه عن الحرية.^[5]
