Use this template to indicate a possible over-reliance on old news articles. Elderly news articles, even if they're technically secondary/analytical sources, should be treated as primary sources by Wikipedia editors, and articles should not be solely or chiefly sourced through primary sources, see WP:PRIMARY.

One intended use case is articles created when some noteworthy event happened that never got revisited later, once the event could be seen in retrospective. It suggests the article could be improved by contemporary sources that reflect the enduring importance and notability of the event and any details.

You could also use this template to indicate articles chiefly sourced by now-old news articles whose claims have been found incomplete or inaccurate despite being considered accurate at the time, from sources generally considered reliable. However, do consider whether a template such as {{Update}} would be more appropriate.

 Usage

Basic usage: {{Old news|date=يوليو 2026}}

Parameters:

• |1= the first unnamed parameter is taken to be the name for the tagged content. The default is "article". For example, use {{Old news|section}} to change "This article may be excessively based on..." into "This section may be excessively based on..."
• |reason= If supplied, the text is displayed as a new sentence starting "In particular,". For example, use |reason=the article contains no updates since the day the crash happened to add the sentence "In particular, the article contains no updates since the day the crash happened" to the template's text.
• |date= Dates the tagging of the article. If you don't supply this, a bot will soon add it.
• |talk= If supplied, adds the sentence "Relevant discussion may be found on the talk page." where "talk page" is linked to the supplied talk page.
